Making lemonade from lemons

Lemons 🍋 are bitter, sour and leave a taste in our mouth that can leave us closing our eyes tightly and shaking our heads not wanting to taste it again.

The upside of that is that lemons make lemonade. It is something my mom always said and I was reminded by someone else the other day that I have made lemonade out of the lemons I have been given.

Lemons that I have been given:

• Death of husband
• Raising a teenager alone
• Financial struggles
• Passed up for job promotion
• Broken relationship

Lemons may be sour but when you are able to find just a little sugar, it sweetens the taste and becomes something refreshing. It helps us to resist the urge to close our eyes tightly. Instead, we can enjoy the taste of the refreshing lemon.

Trials come to everyone. What we do with those trials is a reflection of who we are. I will be the first to admit that I haven’t handled all my “lemons” well at first. In fact, my most recent lemon wasn’t handled well at all.  I am still working through that one.  After a couple weeks of reflection and the ability to step back and view it, I feel I am finally able to remove some of the bitter taste and see things differently. God doesn’t ever say that everything will be easy but He does promise comfort, peace and to refresh us when we need it.

So I am going to try to post daily about the lemons and how each one turned into lemonade. By then maybe even the recent lemon will be closer to becoming lemonade. So prepare some lemonade and join me in becoming refreshed.
