Don’t miss the Sunrise

A Sunrise happens every day. Most people start their day when the sun rises. It signifies a brand new day for us to face. We get up, get ready, go to work, deal with co-workers, please the boss, accomplish great things, be a parent, run errands, clean the house and go to bed.

The other day, I was heading to work and taking my daughter to school. As we pulled out of our driveway, there were two other cars on our street doing the same thing. We saw the same kids at the bus stop, traveled on the same road, drove through the same intersections and ended up at the same places as we do Monday through Friday. It is so easy to get caught up in the everyday tasks that we miss the beauty or message that God is trying to show us.

Yesterday, we were about to head out the door to work and school and my daughter opened the front door and said, “Wow! That sunrise is amazing!” Being the teenage girl that she is, she instantly took a picture. She showed me and I agreed it was pretty but the only way I saw it was through the image on her phone. I finished gathering items for my day and we left the house.

Later in the day, I took a peek at facebook and there were at least 5 other pictures of this sunrise from people within my 30 mile radius. That night, we met some friends for dinner and they showed me their pictures of this beautiful sunrise (pictured on this post).

That is when I realized what I missed. I saw all of the pictures and yes, they all looked similar and quite beautiful. What I missed was seeing it with my own eyes and letting God use that as a way to remind me that each day is important. I was so caught up in making my lunch to take to work and gathering my items that I didn’t take the time to see it. Each day presents something new to us. If we are focused on the mundane tasks that happen each day, we will miss it. We will miss the beautiful picture and all of the colors that God wants to show us. Each day we are presented with a beautiful tapestry. Don’t just keep a blank canvas.
